Pitch- Judgement

Katie + Carl                         Pitch For Horror Film- Judgement

Storyline of film overall: Group of people who follow the bibles teaching strictly. They believe if people don’t follow rules they shouldn’t exist. Through the film, the killer leaves no trace of evidence so audience is led to believe that super-natural things are happening.

Ideas For Narrative:

The main idea for our opening sequence is that it is going to be an enigma scene. The following bullet points are the main events of the sequence.

. Most of the first titles are when the girls are walking- which will be a montage

. Four girls walking home after night out- (Early hours in the morning, dark, empty street)

. Girls are sleeping at Libby’s house

. Whist walking towards door, Libby notices something attached to tree (Ripped page from the bible, sentence circled)

. Other girls shout Libby to open door, Libby tells them the keys under the mat

. When girls get inside, Libby tells other to go upstairs and take their make-up off

. Libby goes into kitchen and examines page

. Interrupted by phone ringing- Libby’s mum

. Libby hears noise in front room (Amy watching static TV, Can’t see her face)

. Libby shouts at her, eventually Amy goes back upstairs

. More weird things happen e.g.: Libby’s dog in strange trance

. Libby hears children’s laughter from upstairs- she investigates

. Door has a crucifix in blood painted on it

. When Libby opens the door, audience doesn’t see what she sees- cleverly edited

. Final title- Judgement

Genre of film: Horror/ Thriller

Creative Ideas

The conventions that we are going to include in our film that are appropriate for our genre are:

. Children’s Laughter

. Blood

. Religious themes

. Unseen killer

. Suspense music/actions

. Dog in trance

I think these conventions add to the whole horror aspect of the film. They increase suspense. Carl and I are going to try and not make our conventions cliché and common like other horror films by keeping our ideas origin l.

Justification

Rather than the usual montage that is usually used in an opening sequence of any other film, our opening will be a separate scene from the rest of the film, which will create an enigma in itself. The reason we are using an enigma scene, is to create a series such as unanswered questions, which will straight away grab the audience’s attention. The enigma scene will also increase suspense, and is a great way of establishing the genre of the film by the conventions used our group will use.

The reason the audience is attracted to horror films is because they want to experience fear and terror. In our sequence, we will increase this by the use of both diagetic and non-diagetic sound, also the use of clever camera shots. Hopefully this will achieve our target of scaring the audience after editing our sequence.

Our film will succeed in the box office because it will be thrilling and attention grabbing. It uses original conventions which will make our film unique and different from other horror films.
